In a daring overnight operation, the Ogun State Police Command successfully thwarted an armed robbery attempt at the Remo Majestic Hotel in Sagamu during the early hours of October 6, 2023.
A distress call received by Acpol Sagamu prompted a swift response from law enforcement. A combined team of policemen was quickly mobilized to the scene, where they encountered armed hoodlums.
As the police approached, the criminals opened fire indiscriminately. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, two of the armed robbers sustained fatal injuries, forcing the others to flee into the nearby bush, with some bearing gunshot wounds.
During the operation, law enforcement recovered a cache of incriminating evidence, including two locally made single barrel guns, four unexpended cartridges, and thirteen expended cartridges. In addition to the weaponry, one big pair of scissors, ten Android phones, and one Java phone were seized. Furthermore, a white Toyota Venza Car bearing registration number BWR 123DD Abuja was found at the scene of the crime.
Tragically, one police inspector and two security guards were shot by the armed robbers during the confrontation. However, they were swiftly rescued and transported to the Olabisi Onabanjo Teaching Hospital in Sagamu, where they are currently receiving medical attention and reported to be in stable condition.
Confirming the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta, the police spokesperson , Omolola Odutola, said “ the Sagamu Area command had received a distress call at about 1am that armed hoodlums were operating at Remo Majestic Hotel in Sagamu.”
“Immediately the hoodlums sighted the policemen, they opened sporadic firing while the policemen engaged the hoodlums.
“Two of the hoodlums were fatally wounded while others escaped into a nearby bush with bullet wounds,” she said.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspected armed robbers had previously infiltrated the hotel by mingling with the lodgers before launching their audacious and criminal attack.
In response to the incident, Commissioner of Police CP Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha psc has been briefed and has issued immediate orders for a manhunt to locate and apprehend the two fleeing suspects who escaped with gunshot wounds.
