More than 100 women on Monday, received free cancer screening among others at Adigbe Primary HealthCare Centre, Obafemi Owode local government area of Ogun state.
The event organized by Sisters of Jannah (SOJ), Abeokuta Zone in collaboration with the Ogun State Ministry of Health was held in commemoration of the 2023 World Cancer Awareness Campaign.
The campaign was theme “Take Action: Uniting Our Voices Against Cancer”.
The awareness was to uncover Myths and Truths about cancer, stages, preventions, and treatment that have contributed to the loss of lives.
Guest lecturer, Alh. Abdul-Waheed Elegbede, who is also the state health educator for Ogun State Primary HealthCare Development Board noted that treatment is available if detected early.
He emphasised the importance of routine examinations, whether clinical or self-examination, adding that early detection saves lives.
Since prevention is always better than treatment, Elegbede urged women to make checking their blood pressure, blood sugar levels, and taking advantage of the ongoing HPV vaccine supplied to girls between the ages of 9 and 16 by the State Ministry of Health as a matter of duty.
Breast cancer screening, cervical cancer screening, health talks, and blood pressure checks are some of the event’s highlights.
