Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Olakunle Oluomo, has said the 18 signatures put together to produce his impeachment were void.
Oluomo who expressed his displeasure on Friday, while speaking with newsmen at his residence in the legislative quarters in Abeokuta described his removal as a coup, noting that the legislators failed to follow due process.

Recall that Oluomo was impeached on Tuesday, when 18 out of the 26 members of the assembly signed the notice, just as Hon. Daisi Elemide representing Odeda state constituency was elected the new speaker.
He stated that he had filled a suit challenging his impeachment.
“ Its not the question of 10 people signed it is not about the signature it is about rule of law even if 27 people including me signed the paper it is about rule of law your signatures are void if you did not follow the law.
“ For your information i have filled a suit in the Ogun state high court asking the court to determine whether a speaker can be removed through gestapo or coup like manner and the court said they should go and serve them which is right and come back on the 7th of February to defend our case.
“ I am a believer in the rule of law thats why i went to court.
“I remained speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly. Some members have continued to terrorise me after my emergence for second term as speaker. I have believe that members have right to elect speaker, but due process must follow.
“Two of the lawmakers wrestled the mace from sergeant at arm, before forcing their way into the chambers to carry out the illegal impeachment. Even if they want to impeach me, they ought to have served me impeachment notice.
“After the purported impeachment, they later served me the impeachment notice which i have swiftly responded to.
“I am ready to face panel to defend myself, but until that is done, i remain the speaker” he added.
