Ahead of the forthcoming Ramadan, Muslim across the country have been advised to deactivate their Facebook and other social media accounts to avoid distractions during the month-long fast.
Dr Nafiu Ahmed Arikewuyo Al-Jawharih, a senior lecturer at Al-Hikmah University Kwara state, who speaking at a Ramadan seminar organized by the state’s Muslim Congress (TMC), in conjunction with other Islamic bodies gave this advice.
He noted that doing so will ensure proper focus and discipline as “our ears, eyes and feet including all parts of our body must be involved in the exercise”.
“Muslims should deactivate Facebook and other social media accounts because of unsolicited immoral content. The negative impact of this on our fast is extremely damaging and deceptive.
“Some Muslims have had the opportunity to fast for 35 years but don’t have a single point with Allah because of their actions pre and during Ramadan.
“Yet, a single Ramadan with proper connection with Allah can make all the difference as some Hadith have shown.”
He warned that those who attempt to outsmart Allah by persistently indulging in zina, alcohol, and other transgressions with the goal of giving up a day before Ramadan will lose Allah’s mercy.
“Allah will screen such people’s hearts and make it difficult to perform good deeds during the month”, he noted.
He mentioned among other things, taubah, lowering of the eyes, reading the Qur’an with its meanings, and awakening of Iman as necessary preparations for the official start of Ramadan.
The Deputy Chairman of the Organising Committee, Bashir Olalekan Ariyo, in his welcoming address noted that Muslims must intentionally prepare for Ramadan in accordance with the significance that Allah accords to the month.
He added that the program’s goal was to provide Muslims the proper mindset and approach to get the most out of their fast.
