OGEPA seals tyre recycling company over pollution

The Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA) has sealed Gande Limited, Siun, in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, for environmental violations.

Farouk Akintunde, Senior Special Adviser to the Ogun State Governor on Environment, who issued the order during the Agency’s enforcement tour, said  the tyre recycling company was found culpable of operating without adhering to environmental regulations.

He noted that the company endangers the health of residents in the community by emitting carbon-monoxide.

“Following a tip-off from the residents of the community that the company emits carbon-monoxide which is hazardous to health, prompted immediate action by the agency to embark on the tour and shut down the company”.

“Lives of your host community should be a major priority to you; desist from practices that can be injurious to people’s health and or affect businesses, as the present administration will not take it easy with any environmental law defaulter”, he said.

Speaking, Tunji Egbemuyiwa, Director of Special Duty and Climate Change, described the company’s atmosphere as detrimental to the health of the workers and the community.

He however urged residents to report any illegal or unsafe facilities in their areas to prevent an environmental disaster.
