Aunt assaults 14 year old niece with hot pressing iron in Lagos

Fourteen year old Mariam Iman has being reportedly burnt with pressing iron by her cousin in bariga Lagos state.

According to a source who pleaded anonymous, the victim whose father is dead and abandoned by my mother lives with her cousin Zainab also known as mummy Phillips at  22/24 Oyenaiya street iIaje Bariga.

Ogunwatch learnt that the victim was questioned about her cousinโ€™s movement by the husband and after disclosing,  it led to an argument between the husband and wife which made Zainab beat her and then burnt her two breast with a pressing iron.

โ€œ The husband visits Lagos occasionally to see how his wife and child are doing. He does not live there. When he arrived, he inquired about his wife’s whereabouts while he was gone, and Mariam informed him that his wife frequently doesn’t sleep at home and is picked up and dropped off by different vehicles.

โ€œThis was what made her very angry so she beat Mariam for talking and them burnt her two breast with hot ironโ€.

On investigation, it  was gathered that the case was  reported at the Ilaje police station, in Bariga. 

However, even though the case was filed, it was learnt that money was exchanged, and the alleged abuser was let off the hook.

The alleged abuser who showed complete disregard for the consequences of her actions has been openly bragging about escaping accountability adding that  she would always buy her way out.

โ€œ So she has being bragging that nothing will happen to her, that sheโ€™s going to pay her way out of it because she was taken to the station and they collected money from her and allowed her go free

โ€œ I heard she paid the sun of 200k to have it died down and she came back to brag that if they still go and report her she is going to still pay herself out

โ€œ The case was first reported on Saturday 23/09/ 2023 at Ilaje,thatโ€™s the nearest station to us in bariga and later transferred to Ikeja Police Station, where Zainabโ€™s mother got legal assistance. A lawyer was engaged, and Zainab was once again released on the same day she was detained.

โ€œ She was at ikeja on Monday and release on that same Monday 25/09/2023. They claimed to release her because she had a child with her.

Meanwhile, VARSH Foundation a non governmental organization committed to creating a society free of all forms of sexual abuse, child abuse, and gender discrimination has appealed to relevant authorities to revisit the case, ensure a thorough investigation, and prosecute the perpetrator according to the full extent of the law. 

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Lagos command, Benjamin Hundeyin asked our reporter to text him as he is on an official duty.

The PPRO however didn’t reply the text messages sent to him as at the time of filing this report.
