Pelumi Nubi, a 28-year-old Nigerian travel content creator based in the UK, embarked on an extraordinary journey from London to Lagos, Nigeria, driving solo across continents. The audacious adventure, announced in January, concluded after 68 days with her triumphant arrival in Lagos.
Upon reaching the Nigeria-Benin border on a Sunday, Pelumi was greeted warmly by Nigerian officials, an event captured and shared on her YouTube channel. Gboyega Akosile, the spokesperson for the Governor of Lagos, also heralded her arrival.
Pelumi recounted her arduous yet exhilarating journey, marked by challenges and triumphs. She shared her experiences on social media platforms, documenting a myriad of obstacles, including a 24-hour delay at the Liberia border and being denied entry into Sierra Leone. Consequently, her planned return home, initially scheduled for March 23, was postponed to April 7.
In a harrowing incident last month, Pelumi survived a car crash shortly after entering Liberia. Despite the setback, she received medical attention and had her vehicle repaired to resume her journey.
Traversing 17 countries, Pelumi’s route spanned from England through France, Spain, Morocco, and the vast expanse of the Sahara Desert. Notably, she believes she is the first black woman to undertake such a feat.
Pelumi emphasized that her goal transcended merely setting records; rather, it aimed to challenge preconceived notions and inspire others. In an interview, she reiterated that the journey’s costs amounted to nearly $20,000 (ยฃ16,000), encompassing expenses for fuel, accommodation, and other necessities.
Through her remarkable odyssey, Pelumi Nubi exemplified resilience, determination, and the unwavering belief that the “impossible” is merely a word waiting to be redefined.
