Sultan declares Wednesday Eid-Fitri

The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, announced Wednesday, April 10, as the day of Eid-Fitri, marking the end of Ramadan fasting for Muslims in Nigeria. This decision came after the National Moon Sighting Committees reported no sighting of the new moon across the country.

In a statement released by the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs to the Sultanate Council, Prof Sambo Junaidu, the council accepted the report and officially declared Wednesday, April 10, 2024, as the first day of Shawwal 1445AH.

The Sultan extended his felicitations to the Nigerian Muslim Ummah, wishing them Allah’s guidance and blessings. He urged Muslims to continue praying for peace, progress, and development in the country, while also extending his wishes for a happy Eid-El-Fitri to all Muslims.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia announced that the crescent of Shawwal had not been sighted, indicating that fasting would continue on Tuesday. Accordingly, Eid-El-Fitr would be observed on Wednesday, April 10, to mark the beginning of the new Islamic month.

In a statement, Saudi Arabia emphasized the importance of utilizing the remaining moments of Ramadan for activities pleasing to Allah, and prayed for acceptance of fasting, prayers, and good deeds, as well as for the opportunity to witness many more Ramadans in good health.

The declaration aligns with the religious traditions observed by Muslims worldwide, ensuring uniformity in the celebration of Eid-Fitri across different regions.
