Ogun women affairs commissioner pledges continuous investment in women

The Ogun state ministry of women affairs and social development has pledged that the ministry would keep making continuous empowerment and protection of the rights of children, investments in women, men, young people, and use strategies for the state’s sustainable development.

The Commissioner, Hon. Adijat Adeleye represented by the Permanent Secretary, Melutia Ogunremi, stated this today while appearing before the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development led by Hon. Olanrewaju Bakare at the ongoing 2023 budget performance appraisal at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

She added that it has also achieved over 58% of its revenue target for the 2023 fiscal year.

In response, the members of the House Committee led by Hon. Bakare praised the Ministry and gave them the task of working even more closely with the Assembly members to ensure the target groups and individuals identified in their programmes are effectively reached through their representatives.

In another development, the house of assembly tasked the state Ministry of Justice with putting systems in place to guarantee the immediate examination of antiquated legislation with a view to enabling them to be in line with contemporary social realities.

The assembly’s committee on Justice, led by Hon. Oluseun Adesanya while, officials from the Ministry, led by the Permanent Secretary’s representative, who is also the Director of Library Services in the Ministry, Mr. Abdulazeez Ajidele, presented the Ministry’s budget performance at the ongoing third quarter of the 2023 budget performance appraisal

The Committee Chairman in company of Honourables  Musefiu Lamidi, Babatunde Tella, Lukman Adeleye, Yusuf Amosun and Dickson Awolaja, noted that  members of the public needed to be sensitised about the laws, with a view to ensuring a more informed and educated society.

According to Hon. Adesanya, this initiative would facilitate website-based digital access to the various volumes of the law.

The Committee gave the Ministry the same praise for hitting its revenue goal for the 2023 fiscal year, but noted that more might still be done with better efforts. 

When presenting their budgetary performance reports for the period under review, the Permanent Secretary’s representative, Mr. Ajidele, and the Chief Registrar of the Customary Court of Appeal, Olawunmi Oladunjoye, said earlier that they were prepared to ensure that the people received justice in an efficient manner.

Martins Akinyemi, the Executive Secretary of the Judicial Service Commission, also reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to fostering service delivery efficiency while outlining the Commission’s accomplishments.
