In a bid to reduce the growing number of street kids in the society, parents have been urged to inculcate the right set of knowledge in their children.
The appeal was made at the Household of Love Foundation’s Christmas outreach and get-together held in the Juveline home, Asero Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital
Founder of the goup, Titilola Akinlawon a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, while stressing the foundation’s commitment in nurturing the less privileged, steering them away from negative influences, and fostering a positive impact on the community maintained that parents must take responsibility in passing the right set of message th their wards.
“ Founded two years ago, the Household of Love Foundation aims to be a haven for street boys, providing them with rehabilitation, education, and vocational training to empower them to become valuable contributors to society.
“When parents are not there, the children will join bad gangs; they will do all sorts. Mothers particularly have a responsibility. God gave us the roles to nurture our children, ensuring they become our future.”
“ These children on the streets, if not trained, will become problems to our children that we have nurtured. I take it as a serious responsibility that somebody must do something,.
Akinlawon shared her opinion that the holiday season offers a chance to show compassion and love to those in need rather than merely enjoying in excess.
“I have the impression that during Christmas, we overeat. I told myself that instead of indulging in excess, why not share the joy of food with those who need it.
“The foundation, though officially incorporated two years ago, has been actively functioning even before its formal establishment”.
Recognising the potential long-term effects on society, she emphasised the urgency of addressing the plight of untrained street children and revealed that some of the individuals who were formerly homeless have been sent to school; among their success stories is a law graduate from Babcock University.
