Protect human rights, Ogun NSCDC boss tells officers

In a bid to effectively protect lives and properties, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, Ogun state command  have organized a retreat to sensitize armed operatives on the need for caution and proper handling of ammunition.

The 2023 annual retreat targeted towards all arms bearing department and units was held on Wednesday at the commandโ€™s headquarters, Owu Dekudu village,off Kobape road Abeokuta, the state capital.

The theme: Fundamentals Of Law Enforcement And Protection Of Infrastructural Facilities Towards Achieving A Peaceful Society.

The state commandant, David Ojelabi, while addressing the officers as citizens in uniform harped on the need to exercise caution and protect human rights.

He noted that the retreat aimed to remobilize, retrain and strategize efforts in handling situations will give the state a tranquil and well-organized security environment.

โ€œ The essence of our coming together this morning is to remobilize all our arm bearing unit, to retrain them in form of a refreshing course, we have the population growing and it is the same way we should strategies our efforts in handling the situations this is why we have mobilise all our armbearing officers in Ogun state to come for this program .

โ€œ In the history of Nigeria Civil Defense Corps, I do not think there has ever been any record of accidental discharge and because of this we put every of our security officials on their toes. We teach them and train and put them on modalities before they can pull the trigger so as to protect human right.

Citing an example of the recent bombing in Kaduna State he noted that โ€œ security operatives should always underline the importance of use of engagement at all times adding that the consequences of any error resulting from failure to engage professionally might not only befall members of the society but may also hit hard on one’s immediate family.

In her remarks, the Deputy governor of the state, Noimot Oyedele-Salako who doubled as the Special guest of honor and mother of the day assured the command of the administrationโ€™s support to provide the required logistics and resources to support the call.
