Two minors arrested for setting Ogun school on fire


Nine year old Malik Iliasu and six year old Wahis Musa of Community Primary School, Isheri Olofin have been arrested for setting their school and its property fire.

Spokesperson of the Ogun state police command, SP Omolola Odutola on Monday confirmed the arrest in a statement made available to OgunWatch.

She noted that the incident was reported to the police by a Chief in the community and they were apprehended on Sunday October 29th, 2023.

According to the statement, Wahis Musa and Malik Iliasu who gained access to one of the unlocked classrooms at Community Primary School, Isheri Olofin gather books left behind by the teachers and pupils and then set them on fire. 

Upon receiving the report, Odutola said the Anti-Crime and Detectives visited the scene and brought the alleged children to the police station for interrogation.

โ€œThe value of the damaged books is currently unknown. The police have started making inquiries on how to contact their parents as this is a very serious crime for these children to get themselves involved in.โ€

Meanwhile, she stated that investigations are on going and the public will be notified if there are any other individuals who may have instigated the children .
