Man caught bathing blood: Police disclose result of blood sample

The Ogun state police command has disclosed that a man, Ganiyu Shina, who they earlier arrested for bathing with blood – suspected to be human blood – at a stream in Abeokuta, is innocent, confirming that the blood is a cow’s.

Ogunwatch had earlier reported how the police arrested the 49 years old suspect while having a blood bathing at a community river in kotopo area of Odeda local government.

Detained Ganiyu, while being interrogated had told the police that he was, on the direction of his spiritual consultant, performing spiritual rites intended to solve his perceived ‘spiritual problems’, noting that the blood in question was not a human’s but extracted from a cow.

However, while possession of Human blood is criminalized, possession of a cowโ€™s blood is not an offense in any law in Nigeria, Ogunwatch can confirm.

In doubt of the accused’s confession and to substantiate a potential prosecution, the police proceeded to subject the blood sample to a laboratory test, the result of which was finally disclosed to our correspondent on Tuesday.

Speaking to Ogunwatch, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the police spokesman in Ogun state said: ”We have conducted a laboratory test on the blood sample caught with Ganiyu and discovered that it is not human blood but that of a cow. We however appreciate the community people who had invited the police into the situation as against taking laws into their hands.”

When asked about the present condition of Ganiyu, Abimbola who didn’t give a definite date said that the suspect would be free as soon as possible.
