The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has made headlines once again with the arrest and detention of the renowned cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky. The arrest, which occurred in Lagos on Wednesday night, follows a series of controversies surrounding the social media sensation in recent weeks.
Bobrisky’s detention at the Lagos Command of the EFCC comes in light of allegations related to the abuse of the Nigerian currency, particularly involving the spraying and mutilation of naira notes. Confirming the arrest on Thursday, the EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, outlined the reasons behind Bobrisky’s apprehension.
According to Oyewale, Bobrisky faces charges related to the abuse, spraying, and mutilation of naira notes, among other allegations. He emphasized the seriousness of the EFCC’s commitment to upholding the integrity of the Nigerian currency, stating, “We are very serious about restoring the dignity of the naira.”
While the investigation into the matter is ongoing, Oyewale made it clear that Bobrisky will be brought before the court to face the charges leveled against him. The arrest of Bobrisky underscores the EFCC’s unwavering stance against financial crimes and its determination to enforce legal measures to safeguard the nation’s currency.
