In a chilling revelation at the Night of Tribute in Lagos, Sola Faleye, Personal Assistant to the late Group CEO of Access Bank Plc, Herbert Wigwe, shared a harrowing account of narrowly escaping the tragic helicopter crash that claimed multiple lives.
Faleye, who initially planned to fly with Wigwe and others, opted for a road journey to Vegas with the luggage, while his boss, the CEO’s wife, son, and business associate, Abimbola Ogunbajo, took the ill-fated chopper to the same destination.
Recounting the journey from London, Faleye revealed a conversation with Wigwe about the comfort of night flights in helicopters.
Upon landing in Lagos, they awaited clearance from immigration, where two vans were prepared – one for boarding the chopper and another for the luggage. In a moment of intuition, Faleye decided to accompany the luggage by road, citing the potential delay in its arrival.

Expressing a commitment to duty, Faleye approached Wigwe with the idea, emphasizing the safety and security of delivering the luggage personally.
Wigwe approved, and Faleye wished him a safe flight. Little did they know that this decision would spare Faleye from the tragic fate that befell his boss, the CEO’s family, and Ogunbajo in the helicopter crash. The Night of Tribute served as a poignant platform for Faleye to share this remarkable twist of fate.
