Police continue investigation into death of singer Mohbad

The Lagos State Police Command has intensified its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad. The probe has extended to the illegal embalming of the deceased’s body following his demise.

Boluwatife Adeyemo, also known as Darosha, who served as the Personal Assistant to Mohbad, was interrogated at the Zone 2 Police Headquarters, accompanied by Mohbad’s father, Joseph, and mother, Abosede. The interrogation took place in the presence of the family’s legal team and other concerned parties.

During the interrogation, Darosha’s statement led the police to request further questioning of individuals mentioned therein. The investigation aims to uncover the identity of the individual responsible for the unauthorized embalming of Mohbad’s body.

Monisola Odumosu, head of the family’s legal team, confirmed that a meeting was held at Zone 2 Police Headquarters in Lagos State, where Mohbad’s family members, including his father, mother, brother, wife, and witnesses, were present. The police reiterated their commitment to conducting a thorough investigation, with findings to be directed to the Legal Department of the force for recommendations.

The family’s legal representatives had earlier petitioned the police, alleging that Darosha, Mohbad’s personal assistant, had undertaken the illegal embalming of the deceased’s body. This act violates relevant sections of the Coroner’s System Law, 2007, which address the tampering of dead bodies.

Following Darosha’s interrogation, the police have expanded their inquiries to include other individuals implicated in his statement. This development underscores the gravity of the situation and the determination to uphold the law.

The controversy surrounding Mohbad’s death emerged shortly after his passing on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27. As investigations unfold, the police remain focused on unraveling the circumstances surrounding the untimely demise of the former Marlian Music signee.

Mohbad’s death prompted the establishment of a special investigation team by the Lagos State Police Command, which commenced its probe on September 18, 2023. The investigation also led to the arrest of individuals including Naira Marley and Balogun Eletu, aka Sam Larry.

The deceased’s body was exhumed on September 21, 2023, for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. While awaiting the autopsy results, the toxicology test has been concluded, with findings sent to the pathologist for analysis and interpretation.
