Disguised husband tries to kill wife in attempt to steal home television: police

In a shocking incident, the Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended a 35-year-old man in the Bauchi metropolis for allegedly attempting to murder his wife using a pestle. The suspect, identified as Tijjani Ahmadu Diye, confessed to the sinister plot during police investigations.

According to a statement released by the Bauchi State Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Ahmed Wakil, the arrest was made on December 2, 2023. The incident occurred at the couple’s residence in the Bauchi metropolis, leading to the victim being immediately evacuated to the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, for urgent medical attention.

Wakil revealed that the suspect concocted a false story, claiming that armed robbers had invaded their home. As part of his deceptive plan, he asked his wife to cover her head with a scarf. Once alone with her, the assailant covered his face, armed himself with a pestle, and launched a brutal attack on his unsuspecting wife.

“The suspect further confessed that he intended to neutralize her and take their television, selling it to raise funds to furnish his shop,” Wakil stated.

The victim suffered grievous injuries as a result of the assault, and detectives attached to the ‘A’ Divisional Police Headquarters in Bauchi swiftly responded to the scene. The police team ensured the victim’s immediate evacuation to the hospital.

Commissioner of Police Auwal Mohammed has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough and discreet investigation to unravel more details about the incident. Subsequently, the suspect will face charges in court for assault, causing grievous hurt, and attempting to commit culpable homicide.
