Renewed Eiye, Aiye clash in Sagamu claims lives; police launches investigation

The longstanding conflict between the Eiye and Aiye confraternities has reignited in Sagamu, resulting in the tragic deaths of two individuals, as learnt by Ogunwatch.

A video obtained by the news outlet on Friday captured a young man lying in a pool of blood, identified as a casualty of the ongoing clash.

This recent wave of violence follows a prior clash in September, which, as previously reported by Ogunwatch, led to at least 20 deaths and subsequent raids in the town, resulting in the arrest of suspected cultists.

A confidential source speaking to Ogunwatch disclosed that a man known as “Kalamu” was among the two individuals killed in the town between Friday night and Saturday morning.

The cause of the renewed clash remains unknown at this time, although Ogunwatch had earlier linked the initial conflict to disputes over an alleged process of land sale activities.

In response to these incidents, the Ogun State Police Command issued a press release (AZ:5310/OGS/PRO/VOL.7/220) on November 11, 2023.

The statement assures the public that an investigation is underway regarding the suspected murder in Sagamu.

According to the Sagamu Divisional Police Officer, a vehicular patrol along Ewusi Street intercepted information about a shooting incident on November 10, 2023.

The report outlined that a group of unidentified gunmen on motorcycles shot and killed a young man, whose identity is presently unknown.

Upon reaching the scene, the police discovered the victim with bullet wounds on the neck, stomach, and hand. Three expended cartridges were also found.

The body has been transported to a nearby morgue for further examination. The Commissioner of Police for Ogun State has arrived in Sagamu to personally oversee the investigation, emphasizing the commitment to ensuring justice prevails in this tragic case and to allay public fears.
