Ogun govt orders investigation into murder of TASUED student

The Ogun State Government has made a promise that the suspects behind the murder of a 300-level student of the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijebu-Ode, and the ensuing mayhem in the community would be identified and would not get away with it.

Mr. Waheed Adesina, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Strategy, made this known in a statement on Sunday, emphasizing that the state government denounced the heinous conduct.

According to the statement, the police have been given the go-ahead to gather all parties involved, including the Baale of the Imaweje village where the incident occurred, and determine the immediate and indirect causes of the student’s death, regretting that it was one death too many.

Adesina further emphasized that no one has the right to impose their own laws, reaffirming that the government would take all necessary steps to hold those responsible accountable, and urged the students at the school to uphold the law while they awaited the results of the police investigation.

In the statement, the Permanent Secretary said that the administration had promised that such instances would never occur again anywhere in the state.

Ogunwatch had earlier reported that after the death of the student, whose name has not been released, some university students allegedly set four houses on fire, including one belonging to the Baale of Imaweje, the host community, last week.

Recall that the student’s action was said to be in retaliation for the death of their fellow student, who was allegedly beaten to death on the allegation that he was a cultist.
