Falana faults president Tinubu’s appointment of ICPC, EFCC bosses

Human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana has raised concerns over the appointment of chairmen for both the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) hailing from the same geopolitical zone, citing its violation of the Federal Character Principle.

This declaration was made during his live appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily program on a Monday. Falana emphasized that if the EFCC chairman comes from the northern region, the ICPC chairman should be appointed from the southern region.

Notably, the recently appointed chairman of EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, and the ICPC Chairman, Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, both originate from the South-West geopolitical zone.

Expressing disapproval of the appointment of Olukoyede as the EFCC chairman, who shares the same South-West origin as the current ICPC chairman, Falana stressed the importance of adhering to the Federal Character Commission Act and Section 14 of the constitution, which mandates appointments to reflect the principles of federal character.
