Buhari’s government failed to address security issues effectively – Defense minister

In a candid revelation, Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, didn’t mince words as he pointed fingers at the previous administration, led by former President Muhammadu Buhari, for not giving the issue of insecurity the attention it deserved. Speaking passionately before the Senate Committee on Defence alongside Minister of Defence Abubakar Badaru, Matawalle dropped a bombshell — the Ministry of Defence just got its hands on brand new attack helicopters to give a powerful edge to the ongoing battle against insecurity.

But that’s not all; the Minister of Defence chimed in, highlighting a new era of teamwork among the current Service Chiefs. According to Matawalle, the security puzzle demands a united front from states, local, and federal governments. Drawing on his experiences as the former Governor of Zamfara, he shared insights into the security challenges, particularly the novel menace of banditry in the North-West.

Matawalle didn’t shy away from acknowledging the historical problem of Boko Haram in the North-East. He attributed the previous government’s lackluster response to the prevailing issues but assured the Committee that today, robust actions are being taken to tackle the criminal elements head-on. As he passionately emphasized the need for collaborative efforts, he made a call for crucial legislation to fortify the fight against insecurity.

Amidst these revelations, there’s a glimmer of hope — two state-of-the-art attack helicopters have just been added to the arsenal, signaling a determined effort to turn the tide in the battle for security. The rollercoaster of challenges seems to be gradually giving way to a more secure and resilient nation. Stay tuned as the narrative of Nigeria’s fight against insecurity takes an intriguing turn.
