Tiger Woods recently shared an update on his health, stating that he has “zero issues” with his surgically repaired right ankle. The 47-year-old golf legend has been sidelined from competitive play since April, when he had to withdraw from the third round of the Masters due to an injury.
Woods underwent fusion surgery on his ankle to address post-traumatic arthritis resulting from a previous fracture in the joint. He reported that the pain in his ankle is now entirely gone, and he has no problems with the area where the fusion surgery was performed. However, his road to recovery is not without its challenges.
He explained, “But all the surrounding areas are where I had all my problems, and I still do. So you fix one, others have to become more hypermobile to get around it, and it can lead to some issues.”
Recently, Woods was seen caddying for his son, Charlie, at the Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Championship. He admitted that even this task left him feeling pretty sore, despite the course being flat. This experience highlights that while his ankle may be on the mend, there are still concerns related to his overall physical condition.
Looking ahead, there’s a possibility that Woods might participate in the PNC Championship, an exhibition tournament where major champions play alongside their children or parents. The event is scheduled for December, and should he decide to play, he would be permitted to use a cart rather than walking the course, which could ease the physical strain.
In October, Woods and fellow golfer Rory McIlroy unveiled plans for an indoor “high-tech league.” Just recently, Woods announced his co-ownership of one of the league’s teams, the Jupiter Links Golf Club. He is set to compete for this team when the league commences in January 2024.
The golf world is eagerly watching Woods’ journey to recovery and his potential return to competitive play, and he remains a beloved figure in the sport. We’ll continue to monitor his progress and look forward to seeing him back on the course when he’s ready.
