UK is committed to strengthening bilateral ties with Nigeria, Envoy

Britain reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing bilateral relations with Nigeria in the fields of health, education, and security. Dr. Richard Montgomery, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, made this declaration during the celebration of King Charles III’s 75th birthday at his residence in Abuja.

Montgomery highlighted the robust people-to-people connections between Nigeria and the UK, with a substantial Nigerian diaspora in the UK and a sizable UK diaspora in Nigeria. These connections encompass shared interests in creative arts, sports, and education.

He underscored the importance of the UK-Nigeria relationship, emphasizing their shared history and common interests in defense, security, trade, investment, justice, and home affairs. The two nations have collaborated on development, health, education, livelihoods, and government effectiveness. They also align on foreign policy challenges in international organizations.

Montgomery expressed the UK’s readiness to work in partnership with Nigeria across various areas of cooperation, demonstrating mutual respect. Additionally, he highlighted the strong people-to-people ties in education, creative arts, sports, and industry.

The British High Commissioner acknowledged the challenges faced by Nigerian citizens, including high inflation, and encouraged them to have faith in the new administration’s significant and necessary reforms.
