Tinubu: Nigerians sacrifice for a better future in tough times

President Bola Tinubu acknowledged on Wednesday that Nigerians are facing challenging times due to his administration’s decision to remove fuel subsidy and standardize the foreign exchange rate. Speaking at the 19th All Nigeria Editors Conference in Uyo, Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, emphasized the necessity of these tough measures for a better future.

He explained that while the short-term difficulties were inevitable, the government had implemented palliatives, including a provisional monthly wage increase of N35,000 for six months, an Infrastructure Support Fund for states, a N100 billion CNG bus rollout program, and the signing of Executive Orders to improve the business environment.

Tinubu urged editors to provide positive coverage to enhance investor confidence and combat fake news through fact-checking and responsible reporting. The President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, Mr. Eze Anaba, echoed concerns about the economy, urging the government to take urgent steps for revival and emphasizing the collective effort needed to improve the economic situation and the well-being of Nigerians.
