One killed in crash on Lagos-Abeokuta expressway

In the early hours of Saturday morning, tragedy struck on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway near the Ago Adura area, claiming the life of one individual. The grim incident was confirmed by Babatunde Akinbiyi, the spokesperson for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency.

According to Akinbiyi, the fatal accident involved a single vehicle, a Mercedes Benz bearing license plate JJJ168JF. The driver, who was alone in the car, reportedly lost control due to drowsiness, leading to the vehicle veering off the road and overturning.

The force of the impact from the tumbling vehicle proved fatal for the driver. Akinbiyi stated, โ€œA fatal road accident occurred at Ago Adura, Ewekoro Local Government Area, outward Abeoukuta at about 06:55hrs which involved a Mercedes Benz with reg no.: JJJ168JF (Ash colour).โ€ He added, โ€œThe lone accident involved one male victim who died as a result of the crash. According to eye witness on the ground, the car driver dozed off while driving, which led to loss of control, tumbled, and crashed from inward to outward lane.โ€

Subsequently, the victim’s body was transported to Ifo General Hospital, while the authorities worked to clear the wreckage from the road, facilitating the flow of traffic. Akinbiyi used the opportunity to remind drivers of the importance of being fully alert and aware of their mental state before embarking on journeys, emphasizing the need to prevent such tragic accidents from occurring unnecessarily.
