AFCON: Osimhen bags hat-trick as Super Eagles crushes Sao Tomé 6-0

The Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated Sao Tomé and Principe 6-0 on Sunday evening at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State

With their victory today, Nigeria’s Super Eagles have now scored 22 goals in their AFCON Qualifiers 2023 games, 16 of which came against Sao Tomé. The Super Eagles won the opening tie of the match with Sao Tomé 10-0.

In today’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match in Uyo, Osimhen led the Super Eagles with a hat-trick to lead Nigeria to a 6-0 victory over Sao Tome and Principe.

After scoring four goals in the rematch, which the Super Eagles won with a record 10-0 victory over, the Napoli striker increased his goal total against Sao Tome and Principe to seven.

In the 14th minute, Osimhen headed in Lookman’s corner kick to get the Super Eagles off. In the 28th minute, the Atalanta forward doubled the advantage with a beautiful right-footed finish after eluding two defenders.

Six minutes into the second half, Nottingham Forest’s Awoniyi scored to make it 3-0 after a feed from the excellent Kelechi Iheanacho, and seven minutes after the hour mark, Osimhen scored from the penalty spot to make it 4-0.

With 10 minutes remaining, Osimhen completed his hat-trick, raising his total for the Super Eagles to 19, past Obafemi Martins’ (18), and tying Ikechukwu Uche (19) for fourth place all-time. Osimhen now has 10 goals in the qualifying series. He is now two goals short of matching Yakubu Aiyegbeni’s career high of 21.
