The final rites for the late Nollywood actor, Quadri Oyebamiji, widely known as Sisi Quadri, took place on Saturday in his hometown of Iwo. The actor’s demise, reported by Ogunwatch on Friday, occurred while he was under medical care at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso.
Upon arriving in Iwo from Ogbomoso on Friday evening, the actor’s body underwent a pre-interment ceremony, featuring prayers at an open field near his residence. The gathering included a significant number of residents, colleagues, and well-wishers who paid their respects.
Following the prayers, the final resting place for Sisi Quadri was chosen in front of his residence in the Agbowo Area of Iwo. The burial ceremony attracted a large crowd, reflecting the impact and popularity of the late actor.
Toyin Olaiya, the immediate past governor of the Association of Nigeria Theater Art Practitioners in Osun State, shared insights during an interview with The PUNCH. Olaiya, who led the first theater group that Sisi Quadri joined in Iwo, revealed that the actor fell ill while on a film location.
Expressing shock at the news of Sisi Quadri’s passing, Olaiya mentioned that he had been unaware of the severity of the actor’s illness when he first received news about it. According to Olaiya, Sisi Quadri had taken ill on set and was subsequently admitted to Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso, where he eventually succumbed to his ailment on Friday.
Recalling his history with the late actor, Olaiya remarked, “Sisi Quadri was indisposed and admitted at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, where he eventually gave up the ghost on Friday.” He highlighted the shocking nature of the news, stating that he had expected Sisi Quadri to recover when he initially heard about the illness.
Olaiya shared the effort made by Sisi Quadri’s contemporaries to visit him upon learning of his illness and expressed his disbelief that the situation had escalated to the actor’s untimely death. The theatre community mourns the loss of a talented and respected artist in Sisi Quadri.
