Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has made a plea to the Federal High Court, requesting to be transferred to Kuje prison. Kanu raised concerns about his health and alleged a conspiracy for him to die while in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
During a court session, Kanu expressed his distress over the lack of adequate medical facilities within the DSS facility, stating, “People will come to see me, they will not allow them. They don’t have a medical facility. I have congestive heart failure. They are patching me up.”
Kanu further disclosed that he is experiencing health complications, including swollen feet, and claimed that his requests for necessary medical intervention, such as surgery, have been denied by the authorities. He asserted, “My foot is swollen. I asked them to conduct surgery, and they said they couldn’t. There is a conspiracy to die in detention. I want to be transferred to Kuje.”
His plea for transfer to Kuje prison comes amidst growing concerns about his well-being and access to proper medical care while in detention. Kanu’s legal team has raised alarm over the conditions of his confinement, highlighting the need for urgent medical attention and a more suitable environment for his treatment.
