Yoruba Fuji legend, Wasiu Ayinde, widely known as KWAM 1 or K1 De Ultimate, has addressed allegations made by some of his band members, notably Ayankunle Ayanlowo, accusing him of mistreatment akin to “staff slaving”.
In an interview with GoldMyne TV on Sunday, KWAM 1 refuted the claims, asserting that Ayankunle and others were intentionally spreading falsehoods to tarnish his reputation.
Ayankunle recounted his grievances, alleging mistreatment during his tenure with KWAM 1. He claimed that KWAM 1 would confiscate their passports during travels and cited an incident where he was denied medical attention. Additionally, Ayankunle expressed health concerns attributed to stress from his long tenure with KWAM 1 and vowed to hold the musician accountable for any adverse outcomes.
KWAM 1 responded by alleging that Ayankunle, who complained of his passport being withheld, had absconded from the band during a tour in England, resulting in his passport being confiscated by British authorities for overstaying his visa. KWAM 1 also addressed similar allegations from another band member, Ismaila Olubade, stating that they had their passports and had returned to Nigeria with tickets provided by Demola Oyefeso.
Denying allegations of mistreatment, KWAM 1 emphasized that he has always listened to his band members’ concerns. He cited an example of assisting a member whose house was threatened with demolition in Oyo State, demonstrating his commitment to supporting his team.
KWAM 1 concluded by stating that band member turnover was not uncommon and reiterated his dedication to fair treatment and support for his team members.
