Five things to know about Ogun state

Ogun State is one of the 36 states in Nigeria, located in the southwestern part of the country. The state has 20 local governments with her current governor being Mr. Dapo Abiodun MFR.

Some of the key areas of focus for the Ogun State Government include agriculture, education, healthcare, infrastructure development, job creation, and youth empowerment. The state government has implemented various programs and initiatives in these areas, such as the Ogun State Anchor Borrowers’ Programme, the Ogun Tech Hub, the Ogun State School Feeding Programme, and the Ogun State Health Insurance Scheme, among others.

Here are five things to know about Ogun State:

  • Economic Hub: Ogun State is a major economic hub in Nigeria and is home to several large industries, including manufacturing, agriculture, and commerce. The state’s strategic location near Lagos, Nigeria’s largest city and commercial center, has contributed to its economic growth.

  • Historical Significance: Ogun State is home to several historical and cultural landmarks, including the Olumo Rock, a popular tourist destination that served as a refuge during the Yoruba civil wars. The state is also home to the ancient city of Abeokuta, which played a significant role in the history of the Yoruba people.
  • Education: Ogun State is home to several higher education institutions, including Olabisi Onabanjo University, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, and Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta. These institutions have contributed to the development of the state’s human capital and education sector.
  • Agricultural Production: Ogun State is one of Nigeria’s leading agricultural states and is known for its production of crops such as cassava, yam, maize, and vegetables. The state is also a major producer of poultry and livestock.
  • Cultural Diversity: Ogun State is home to several ethnic groups, including the Egba, Yewa, and Ijebu. These groups have their distinct cultures and traditions, which contribute to the state’s cultural diversity. Ogun State is also known for its vibrant music and art scene, with several popular musicians and artists hailing from the state.
