The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has refuted rumors suggesting that Victor Odeh, convicted for internet fraud, is seven years old.
In an official statement posted on Monday, the EFCC clarified that Odeh is 19, not seven, addressing insinuations about his age.
The commission revealed that Odeh was one of five undergraduates sentenced to two years in prison each for pleading guilty to internet fraud charges.
The statement identified the other convicts as Chidebere Stanley Opara, Manasseh Sefa Ephraim, Chukwukere Obinna Paul, and Enyogu Etim Ekpo.
The EFCC emphasized that previous releases didn’t specify the ages of the convicts, prompting the need for this clarification.
The statement also dismissed false narratives circulating on social media about Odeh’s age, highlighting that the EFCC neither “paraded” the convict nor acted as the convicting court.
