Cubana Chief Priest, a prominent figure in the entertainment scene, is scheduled to appear before Justice Kehinde Ogundare of the Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday, April 17th, 2024. This legal action stems from charges filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), with Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN) leading the prosecution team alongside seven other lawyers representing the Commission’s chairman.
According to details obtained by Channels Television, the charges outline instances where Cubana Chief Priest, whose real name is Okechukwu Pascal, allegedly engaged in the misuse of funds during social events. The first count accuses him of tampering with funds amounting to N500 (Five Hundred Naira) issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria. This purported offense occurred on February 13th, 2024, at Eko Hotel during a social gathering where he reportedly sprayed the funds for a duration of two hours. The charge specifies that this action contravenes Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007, constituting a punishable offense.
Similarly, the second count dates back to a 2020 social event in Lagos, where Cubana Chief Priest allegedly engaged in similar conduct with N500 notes for a two-hour period. This is also cited as a violation of Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007.
Additionally, the third count relates to an incident in January 2024, again in Lagos during a social gathering, where the accused purportedly tampered with N500 notes by spraying them, thereby committing an offense under the same section of the Central Bank Act.
These charges come in the wake of the EFCC’s recent legal action against controversial cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, who faced similar allegations and was subsequently sentenced to a six-month jail term.
