Senate calls for accountability of perpetrators in Delta Army personnel killing

In response to the tragic killing of army personnel during a peacekeeping mission between two conflicting communities, the Senate issued a statement on Sunday emphasizing the need for the perpetrators to be held accountable for their actions.

The statement, endorsed by Senator Abdulaziz Yar’adua, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Nigerian Army, expressed profound condolences for the loss suffered by the military. It specifically highlighted the valor and sacrifice demonstrated by the Commanding Officer, three officers, and 12 soldiers who lost their lives during the distressing incident.

The Senate extended sympathies to the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Army Staff, and the entire Nigerian Army, as well as the officers and soldiers of Operation Delta Safe. It condemned the ruthless killing of the brave personnel by certain youths during their peace mission to Okuama Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State on Thursday, March 14th, 2024.

Recognizing the bravery and commitment displayed by the fallen soldiers, the Senate praised their patriotism, courage, and sacrifice. It emphasized the importance of justice being served and called for swift action to apprehend the perpetrators. The Senate also commended the Chief of Defense Staff for promptly initiating an investigation into the crime.
