Amidst the Ogun State Government’s effort “to support students of Ogun indigen”, a wave of uncertainty looms as the deadline for the disbursement of a special grant, known as the ‘Ogun State Educational Cash Award for Student Help’ (OgunEduCASH), fast approaches.
Governor Dapo Abiodun has approved the immediate payment of this special grant to Ogun state indigenes in tertiary institutions across Nigeria. Matriculated students are urgently advised to visit their Student Portals and complete the necessary forms placed for this purpose.
As part of the broader 5 billion intervention fund dedicated to easing citizens’ hardships, the government announced a one-time N10,000 education support grant for 100,000 pupils in public primary and secondary schools within the state.
Additionally, 27,600 indigent students in tertiary institutions nationwide are set to receive an education grant of N50,000 each.
Checks by Ogunwatch reveal that AAPOLY, Ijebu Igbo and OOU, Ago Iwoye have opened a channel for the collection of bank account details from students of Ogun indigene.
However, reports indicate that some institutions outside Ogun State, such as Lagos State University of Education, Epe, have not received the official letter.
“LASUED Epe campus hasn’t received the letter. We still went to our DSA office this morning to that effect,” stated Adisa, a representative, expressing concerns about the lack of communication.
Chairman of the National Association of Ogun Students, Lagos State University disclosed, “Our school hasn’t received any news or information about the grant. We also went to the DSA and VC office, but we’re told that they haven’t seen any information regarding that.”
However, on Friday morning, Ogunwatch learnt that a portal dedicated to collecting the bio-data of students of Ogun indigene in Lagos State University was live and already in circulation.
Ogunwatch reached out to Commissioner for Education, Arigbabu, who confirmed that letters are being sent to all heads of institutions.
The Ministry of Education in Ogun State has dispatched letters to Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities, Rectors of Nigerian Polytechnics, and Provosts of Nigeria Colleges of Education, requesting the compilation of a list of students of Ogun State origin for the OgunEduCASH grant.
