Voters turn-out quite lower than presidential poll – Former Ogun speaker, Suraju

As the 2023 gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections are ongoing, various trends have emerged including wide spread violence and voters intimidation.

However, former Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon Adekunbi Suraju Ishola, has also mentioned his observation of a low voters turnout in the ongoing gubernatorial election in Ogun state, when compared to the recently presidential election. It might be because of the “harsh” weather, he suggested.

The former speaker said this in an exclusive interview with Ogunwatch on saturday after he voted at his hometown polling unit, Mechanic Junction, Yewa North Local Government, Ogun State.

Also, Hon. Suraj also expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the election in Ogun state, claiming that there was improvement compared to the presidential election.

He said: “The turnout to some extent has been very low, and the person just said that people are just coming, and I want to believe that people will definitely do their civic responsibilities without being forced to do so. Also, you could see that the weather, as far as this area is concerned, is a little bit harsh today. So, that might be responsible for their not coming out on time, an, in all, people are patiently waiting to cast their vote.”
