UNIJOS student shot by unknown gunmen at hostel premises

Unidentified gunmen, on the Easter Monday night, allegedly engaged in a shootout at the University of Jos’ Post Graduate Hostel, Naraguta Campus, Jos.

Sources said the shooting started at about 9:20pm and lasted for about 10 minutes with bullets flying in the air, while a student who was around the hostel field was hit by bullet.

A student who spoke to Ogunwatch, said she and her roommate heard sporadic gunshots from the direction of the Block B which is the Block occupied by the male students and they all were confused and afraid for their lives.

She said: “It is true. We were in the hostel when we suddenly heard gunshots like 8-10 times. I was tensed and almost urinated on my body. We had to shut the door praying and crying while some other students were shouting in fear,” the source said.

One of the student-licensees staying in the PG hostel, as it is popularly called, in expressing his fear, used the medium to call on the University Management to have sophisticated security outfit in and around the University so as to guarantee their safety, as they are afraid for their lives.
