In a heart-wrenching incident, the Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the tragic death of 39-year-old Lilian Nwarache, who took her own life by drinking a lethal dose of insecticide in the Iwaya area of Lagos State. Her devastating act was reportedly driven by her prolonged battle with a debilitating illness.
Nwarache had been grappling with a persistent illness, for which she sought solace and healing at a local church in Iwaya. However, the relentless suffering and frustration eventually led her to take a drastic step. On November 3, 2023, she consumed an entire bottle of a well-known brand of insecticide, desperate to escape her ordeal.
After ingesting the poisonous substance, witnesses reported that she attempted to leap into a nearby canal in an apparent bid to end her life. Thankfully, quick-thinking passers-by intervened and prevented the dire act. She was promptly rushed to a nearby hospital, where a medical professional pronounced her life extinguished.
According to Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer, the discovery of three passports and a Samsung phone in Nwarache’s bag has led to efforts to contact her family members, shedding light on her identity and background.
Hundeyin stated, “It was reported on Friday, around 2 pm, at the Sabo police station, that a woman, 39-year-old, with an unknown address, committed suicide. She had been having a protracted illness and visited a church for prayers. But while in the frustrating condition, she drank a full bottle of a popular brand of insecticide and was making frantic efforts to jump into the canal. She was prevented and rushed to the health center in Iwaya, where she was confirmed dead by a medical doctor on duty.”
In the wake of this tragic incident, detectives have been dispatched to the scene, gathering evidence and conducting preliminary investigations. Nwarache’s remains have been transported to the Lagos Mainland Hospital Mortuary for an autopsy, and endeavors are underway to reach out to her grieving family members.
The heartrending suicide serves as a stark reminder of the pressing need for mental health awareness, support, and accessible resources to help individuals dealing with profound challenges and despair.
