In a devastating incident on the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kaduna Sector Command, reports that 16 individuals lost their lives and 27 sustained injuries in a fatal road crash at Audu Jhangon village.
According to Mr. Kabir Nadabo, the Sector Commander, the tragic incident occurred around 5:20 a.m. on Sunday when a DAF truck with the registration number KUJ 430XC, laden with overloaded goods, lost control and plunged into a ditch. The preliminary investigation suggests that the driver may have been traveling at a high speed, potentially due to fatigue.
The combined efforts of the RS1.114 Zhipe Unit Command and the RS1.16B Dutse Outpost promptly initiated rescue operations. The crash involved a total of 65 people, with 27 individuals sustaining injuries and 16 tragically losing their lives.
Mr. Nadabo stated, “The injured have been taken to the nearest hospital for treatment.” Upon receiving news of the crash, he personally visited the scene to gather first-hand information and direct the rescue team on the evacuation of the deceased to the morgue.
“I also directed the tow truck to remove part of the accident trailer blocking part of the road. The operation is ongoing, and the road is free for movement,” Nadabo added.
The tragic incident underscores the ongoing challenges of road safety, emphasizing the need for continuous efforts to promote responsible driving and prevent road accidents. The FRSC remains committed to ensuring the safety of road users, and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are expected to provide further insights into the incident.
