Tinubu tries to resolve Wike, Fubara quarrel

President Bola Tinubu has taken the initiative to resolve the ongoing political dispute between Governor Simi Fubara of Rivers State and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, which has plunged the state into a state of political crisis.

The president leveraged the Tuesday meeting of the Police Council, where both Fubara and Wike were present as members, to mend fences between the two political allies.

The disclosure came from Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, who shared the outcome of the meeting presided over by President Tinubu at the presidential villa in Abuja.

Interestingly, despite their public feud, Fubara and Wike exchanged pleasantries inside the Council Chambers before the meeting commenced.

Governor Mohammed, who serves as the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum (PDP-GF), further revealed that opposition governors have decided to collaborate with the president due to his demonstrated commitment to not interfering with gubernatorial cases brought before the courts by PDP members.

These peace initiatives transpired in the wake of the council’s confirmation of Kayode Egbetokun as the substantive Inspector General of Police (IGP).

The Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Geidam, explained that Egbetokun’s confirmation was a result of his exemplary performance since being appointed as the acting IGP.

Geidam also cited Egbetokun’s security blueprint as evidence of his suitability for the role.
