Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has pledged to maintain purposeful governance and administrative efficiency as it fosters opportunities for the state’s residents to engage in endeavors that bring honor. Governor Fubara made this commitment during a meeting with Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, who recently participated in the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
Governor Fubara, recognizing Nwabali’s outstanding performance, announced a N20 million reward for the goalkeeper and disclosed plans to bestow upon him the Distinguished Service Star of Rivers State. Additionally, the governor presented a generous gift of N30 million to the entire Super Eagles’ crew who attended the meeting.
In a related development, Governor Fubara demonstrated support for sports excellence by awarding N50 million to the Rivers Hoopers Basketball Team, champions of the Louis Edem National League competition. This announcement was conveyed in a statement issued by the governor’s media aide, Boniface Onyedi.
Governor Fubara emphasized that his leadership focuses on creating an enabling environment that encourages Rivers people to align with positive initiatives, ultimately changing the global perception of the state. He commended Stanley Nwabali for his exceptional goalkeeping during the AFCON, bringing pride to Nigeria.
Expressing gratitude to Nwabali, the governor stated, “If we have not encouraged you in a way that motivated you, you won’t be where you are. So, it is part of purposeful governance and administrative efficiency. So, I want to thank you and assure you that we will continue to do our best.”
Encouraging residents, Governor Fubara urged them to engage in positive actions that promote the state and attract honor. The Commissioner for Sports, Christopher Green, praised the governor for supporting the Rivers Hoopers Basketball Team, while former Commissioner for Justice and ex-Super Eagles player, Chief Adokiye Amiesimaka, lauded the impact of sports development under Fubara’s purposeful leadership.
