Presidency warns Atiku, PDP against blackmailing judiciary

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar criticized judges and alleged interference by President Bola Tinubu’s administration in their rulings. Atiku accused the current administration of suppressing opposition through the judiciary, particularly citing the removal of governors in Zamfara, Kano, and Plateau states.

In response, the Presidency’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, dismissed Atiku’s claims, asserting that President Tinubu is a democratic leader who hasn’t influenced judicial decisions. Onanuga pointed out that the PDP won court cases in Osun and Bauchi states, emphasizing the need for responsible allegations and discouraging a campaign of calumny against the judiciary.

The statement highlighted instances where Atiku and the PDP celebrated court decisions in their favor in the past but now accused the judiciary of bias when unfavorable rulings occurred. It urged Atiku and the PDP to refrain from undermining the judiciary, emphasizing that judgments are based on law and evidence, not emotions. The response sought to counter Atiku’s narrative and defend President Tinubu’s democratic credentials.
