Philippine police file murder charges against 6 Chinese in Nigerian student’s killing

The Philippine National Police has officially lodged murder charges against six Chinese individuals suspected of involvement in the tragic killing of Chibuikem Emmanuel, a Nigerian medical student within the nation’s borders.

A close associate of the deceased said that the suspects’ photographs and personal details have been dispatched to all airports in a bid to prevent their escape. Law enforcement agencies are actively engaged in their pursuit.

The grim incident, as per a witness, unfolded on Sunday when Chibuikem was purportedly assaulted by a group of Chinese nationals. Reportedly, the victim succumbed to severe torture, having been restrained, gagged, and brutally beaten by his assailants. This atrocious event occurred on Orlacson Street, 6014, in Mandaue City, Philippines.

Ogunwatch learned that the dispute commenced around October 19 and was rooted in a dispute concerning a commission owed to Chibuikem’s Filipino girlfriend. “A heated argument erupted between the deceased, his girlfriend, and the Chinese woman who headed the company due to this commission matter,”.

The situation escalated when two vehicles arrived at the location, and their occupants forcefully removed Chibuikem, asserting that they were taking him to the police station on charges of causing a public disturbance. However, it was later discovered that the student was not delivered to the police station as claimed. Instead, he was abandoned in front of the station with his hands bound and bearing evident signs of physical abuse.

Regrettably, upon reaching the hospital, Chibuikem was pronounced dead upon arrival, the friend added.

Ogunwatch reports that the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission declared its intent to probe the alleged homicide of the student. In a statement released by the commission’s spokesperson, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the investigation will be pursued.

In more recent developments, it was learned on Tuesday that the Mandaue City Police Office has formally pressed murder charges against the six Chinese nationals implicated in the tragic demise of the Nigerian student. Cebu Daily News, a media outlet based in the Philippines, confirmed that Chibuikem passed away on October 21.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Franco Oriol, who serves as the MCPO deputy city director for administration and also acts as their spokesperson, conveyed that they have successfully identified four of the six Chinese individuals allegedly involved, and murder charges have been filed against them.
