The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended Senator Dino Melaye, a prominent member, over allegations of anti-party activities.
The decision was made by the executive committee of the Ayetoro/Iluagba Ward 1 following a review of a disciplinary committee’s report on Melaye’s conduct.
The suspension statement reads:
“Senator Dino Melaye’s actions have caused embarrassment and disrepute to the party. As such, his L;m’; 7embership is no longer sustainable. The Ward party executive hereby suspends Dino Melaye from the PDP, effective immediately.
“This suspension follows Article 59(1) of the PDP constitution, which empowers the Ward executive to take disciplinary action against members who violate party rules.”
Melaye’s recent conduct was reportedly seen as damaging to the PDP’s interests, triggering the action.
Signed by Ward Chairman Abayomi Osamika and Ward Secretary Yodson Dayo, the suspension letter details the events leading up to the decision: “The Ward Party Executive Committee of the PDP in Ayetoro/Iluagba Ward 1 met on Friday, September 12, 2024, to review the disciplinary committee’s findings on alleged anti-party activities by Senator Dino Melaye.
“Senator Dino Melaye was summoned to appear before the Disciplinary Committee on August 20, 2024, regarding misconduct allegations, as stipulated by Article 57(4) of the PDP Constitution. However, he failed to attend, showing disregard for the party’s authority.
“Upon deliberation, the following resolutions were reached:
- Senator Dino Melaye’s failure to appear constitutes gross disrespect to the party and its leadership.
- His actions violate the PDP Constitution and undermine party discipline.
- His conduct has brought embarrassment to the party, making his continued membership untenable.
“The Ward Party Executive, therefore, suspends Senator Dino Melaye from the PDP, with immediate effect. This decision aligns with the provisions of Article 59(1) of the PDP Constitution.
“We call on all members to uphold party discipline and unity as we work towards building a stronger party capable of winning elections and serving the people effectively.”
