In a bid to combat the Cholera outbreak in parts of Ogun State, which has claimed at least 12 lives, the Ogun State Government, under the Ministry of Environment, is launching an initiative to verify the authenticity of table water and beverage producers within the state.
The Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Ola Oresanya, announced this during a stakeholders’ meeting with the Table Water and Beverages Producers Association of Nigeria at the ministry’s Conference Hall in Abeokuta.
The meeting’s primary objective is to identify registered water producers and root out any illegal operators in the industry. Oresanya emphasized that compliance with proper production processes is non-negotiable, as mere registration with NAFDAC does not exempt producers from state oversight.
The Ministry of Environment will collaborate with NAFDAC, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment to ensure adherence to hygienic production standards. Periodic on-site inspections will be conducted to identify any non-compliant producers.
