Ogun first lady condemns spread of fake news

The wife of Ogun State governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, emphasized the importance of truth in journalism, urging reporters to verify information before sharing it. She shared this during a beauty pageant held as part of the Nigeria Union of Journalists’ Press Week in Ogun State.

The event’s theme was “Nexus Between Modern and Traditional Media in Promoting Democracy and Good Governance.” Mrs. Abiodun acknowledged the vital role of journalists in providing information but stressed the need for responsible reporting.

She recounted her family’s experience with fake news, emphasizing its negative impact. The NUJ Chairman, Wale Olanrewaju, praised the First Lady for her support and commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for his backing of journalists.

The event concluded with Bunmi Mustapha winning the title of New Face of Ogun NUJ. Other notable attendees included Mrs. Aderinola Talabi, wife of the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Bolanle Oluomo, wife of the Speaker, and Commissioner for Women Affairs, Adijat Adeleye-Oladapo.
