Ogun assembly calls relevant MDAs to safeguard public properties

Concerned by the recent cases of vandalization and theft of public assets, especially road furniture and iron barricades on overhead bridges in some parts of Ogun State, the State House of Assembly has called on all concerned Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government to put in place measures towards securing all public assets and utilities.

This was just as the Assembly equally challenged the people of the State to be more vigilant and report perceived or occurring cases of vandalism of public property to the security agencies.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide made the call while responding to the submission of a member representing Abeokuta North State Constituency, who is also the Assembly’s Deputy Chief Whip, Hon. Tella Babatunde, who raised the issue under personal explanation during the plenary at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Elemide counseled the residents in the State to monitor and safeguard public property across the State, noting that such infrastructural facilities were part of the dividends of democracy meant to ease the livelihood of all residents.

He admonished the people to embrace attitudinal change and desist from such unpatriotic act of vandalisation of public utilities, which he noted were inimical to the development and progress of the State.

Earlier, Hon. Tella had reported to the Assembly, the recent cases of vandalization of the iron barricades on the road from Kuto-NNPC overhead Bridge in Abeokuta, saying such act if not checked could lead to further vandalization of more Government assets.

In the same vein, the Minority Leader, Hon. Lukmon Adeleye called for the intervention of the State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure regarding the provision of median and barricades on the Ijebu-Ode/Ikoto/Epe Road, which had led to the loss of lives in recent time.

Responding, the Speaker, said the House of Assembly would extend an invitation to the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to conduct an on-the-spot assessment on the road.

In another development, the Speaker congratulated the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewa Land, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, on his emergence as the new Chairman of the State Council of Obas with prayers for a prosperous tenure, that usher in more progress, peace and tranquility in the State.
