Nigerian soldiers, Corporal Hannah Reuben and Lance Corporal Ojolaide Esther, have achieved remarkable success at the 36th World Military Wrestling Championship in Azerbaijan, securing gold and silver medals, respectively.
As revealed by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the Director of Defence Information of the Nigerian Armed Forces, Corporal Hannah Reuben emerged victorious in the 68-weight category of women’s freestyle wrestling, clinching the gold medal by defeating her Italian opponent. Notably, this marks the first time the Armed Forces of Nigeria has secured a gold medal at the CISM World Wrestling Championship.
Lance Corporal Ojolaide Esther also demonstrated outstanding prowess, earning a silver medal in the 72-weight category at the same event. The commendable performances of these female wrestlers have garnered widespread acclaim, showcasing the global impact of the Armed Forces of Nigeria wrestling team.
The medals were presented by Mr. Dirk Shwede, the Vice President of the International Military Sports Council. Major General Emmanuel Onumajuru, representing Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa, and Air Vice Marshal Abidemi Marquis, the Director of Sports at Defence Headquarters, were present to witness and celebrate this historic achievement on the international stage.
