Man killed in Rivers state cult attack

Gunmen believed to be cultists fatally shot Akpan, known as Fregene, in the Rumukalabo area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Fregene was ambushed on his way home after watching a football match on Wednesday night. The assailants, who had been trailing him, shot him twice in the neck at close range before fleeing the scene.

Witnesses described the aftermath as chaotic, with residents unable to intervene due to the lack of firepower. The once peaceful area turned chaotic, and fear spread among the residents.

On Thursday morning, locals gathered near the incident site, discussing the event and expressing concerns about potential police mass arrests. Some called for a thorough investigation to uncover and apprehend the culprits. Akpan, originally from Akwa Ibom State, had been residing in Port Harcourt for several years. The police, when contacted, had not provided feedback by the time of filing this report on Thursday evening.
