Man fatally struck by train in Lagos

A tragic incident occurred in the Oshodi area of Lagos on Saturday when a 50-year-old man, identified as Emmanuel, was fatally struck by a train.

Reports indicate the accident took place near Arena Shopping Mall. The deceased’s sister, whose name is yet to be disclosed, informed the police that she received a call around 9 a.m., notifying her that her older brother had been hit by a moving train.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the Mosafejo Division was alerted at around 1:33 p.m. A team of detectives was dispatched to the scene, where they photographed the area and transported the body to a public morgue for autopsy.

Hundeyin added that the case has been transferred to the Railway Police Command in Ebute Metta for further investigation.

While the circumstances leading to the accident remain unclear, a similar event occurred in August in Mushin, where a man was also killed by a moving train while walking along the Cappa railway tracks. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, through its spokesperson Nosa Okunbor, confirmed that the victim died instantly from severe injuries sustained in the collision.
