Man electrocuted while reportedly tampering with power cable in Ogun

In a grim turn of events, the Ogun State Police Command has officially confirmed the electrocution of an as-yet-unidentified individual in the Day Waterman area, near Kobape in the state. According to information obtained by PUNCH Online, the victim met his untimely demise while attempting to cut a cable belonging to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).

The incident came to light when a staff member from the Owode Egba branch of IBEDC reported the matter to the police. Ogun State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, verified the incident, stating that the deceased’s body has been transported to the Ogun State Teaching Hospital Sagamu for an autopsy.

In a separate yet concerning incident, two casual staff members of the Quantum Packaging Company in Igbesa were apprehended for allegedly stealing a cable suspected to belong to the company. The suspects were first caught by Okoi Akilepo, the Chief Security Officer of the company, during a foot patrol. Subsequently, they were handed over to the police.

Confirming the arrests, Odutola said that both suspects had admitted to the crime. The police are expected to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding these incidents, shedding light on the motivations behind the cable theft and the events leading to the electrocution tragedy.
